We developed the Eat Smart™ and Drink Smart™ logo to help make it easier for consumers to make better choices when shopping. The logos appear on all Unilever products that meet the company-established nutritional criteria for the key nutrients: trans fats, saturated fats, sugar, salt and, in the U.S. cholesterol
The logo explained
The Eat Smart™ and Drink Smart™ logo is easy to see and understand. It's a blue circle featuring a big blue check with a golden sun rising over it – the ultimate symbol of vitality. It says Eat Smart™ and Drink Smart™ in bold letters, with the assurance that it is 'Based on U.S. Dietary Guidelines'. You'll also find additional, easy to understand nutritional information on the back of the pack, along the website reference.
Based on U.S. Dietary Guidelines
The U.S. Dietary Guidelines are designed to help Americans choose diets that will promote health and reduce risk of chronic disease. Our Eat Smart™ and Drink Smart™ logos help consumers quickly and easily identify products which, when consumed as part of a balanced diet, make it easier to follow those guidelines.
During the course of 2007, in the U.S. you'll find the logos on: Ragu Pasta Sauces, SlimFast meal replacers, Promise Margarines, Skippy Peanut Butter, Lipton tea products, Hellmann's and Best Foods mayonnaise and Bertolli olive oil. From now on, when you choose products with the logo, you can be sure your choice will be tasty and better for you, too.
The future
At Unilever, all our newly-created foods and drinks are now routinely measured against the benchmark criteria. As a result, more and more products will feature the Eat Smart™ and Drink Smart™ logo. So look for it. It's the best way of giving you clear, simple, consistent and correct information on nutrition.
